Coworking Space in Seoul:  Rehonoth G Campus

Best for: Students, digital nomads, pre-startups looking for a place that doesn’t require membership to access.
Cost: Pay for a drink and work without time limit
Amenities: Printing facility, Cafe, Meeting room, Lockers.

Review

Located in Sinchon area close to major university campuses, Rehoboth G Campus is easily accessible coworking space. It has 60-70 seats, usually occupied up till 60%, especially at the second half of the day. It has the main area, a quiet space called seminar room, and “recharge area” with bean bags to stretch out or take a nap. G Campus is used mostly by students and digital nomads, however, the atmosphere is cozy and welcoming to all. The place is not noisy despite having a background music. The staff is welcoming and speaks good English language. There are several quick wifi networks and passwords are easy to find on the signs around the place.

G Campus doesn’t have an entrance fee, but it requires to buy a drink from the local cafe. The price level here is lower than at the chain coffee shops at Seoul. It also has a food menu with a variety of options from sandwiches to pasta.

For an extra fee, the place can offer printing services (BW: 30 Won; Color: 300 Won) as well as a retable locker (10000 Won/Month). There is also an option to rent a separate meeting room (5500 Won per hour). However, Rehoboth G Campus participates in Seoul city program for young entrepreneurs and lets you book the meeting room in advance and for free for two hours using government portal: job.seoul.go.kr

Benefits:

  • Location: Rehoboth G Campus has one of the best locations for the student startups or freelance designers because they live and study in the adjacent districts of Hondae and Sincheon
  • Affordable yet professional: Moving from working at cafes to a professional environment with functional coworking space and meeting rooms is a beneficial choice for a lot of young entrepreneurs. And it is extra pleasant if it doesn’t hurt the wallet.

Downsides:

“Sorry, we are booked”: We have been warned, that few times per week at evenings G Campus might be partly or fully booked for the event, and not available for coworking as a result. They post information on the website about exact hours, so we advise you to check their schedule. Some of the events are free to join though.

Final note: Rehoboth G Campus is a safe harbor for young entrepreneurs and student startups, that has all the necessary tools for the quality remote work experience. Though, it would be nice to have a local app with notifications when G Campus is not accessible.

Coworking Space in Seoul:  Peachtree Yeoksam

Best for: Small teams and freelance developers

Cost:

One day pass: ₩15,000

Hot desk: ₩121,000/mo (₩110,000/mo when signing a contract for 3 month+)

Fixed desk: ₩250,000/mo (₩220,000/mo when signing contract for 3 month+)

Office(2 people): ₩500,000/mo (₩460,000/mo when signing contract for 3 month+)

Amenities: Meeting room, Printer, Locker, Rentable Monitors, Kitchen, Coffee Machine

Review:

This cozy and homely coworking space is located a few minutes of walking from Yeoksam subway station.  Equipped with all the necessary things, PeachThree at Yeoksam is a good solution for Korean startups or entrepreneurs who look for a hot desk with speedy WiFi and a quiet atmosphere.

For a very reasonable price, you get access to amenities that are irreplaceable at a good coworking space:  unlimited access to a meeting room, a kitchen area where you can store, warm up and eat your lunch, and a coffee machine to get a boost of energy. Also, there are affordable lockers and 20-inch monitors.

There is not a lot of focus on networking at PeachThree Yeoksam. People come here to get their job done. However, if you are looking for somebody with a specific skill set, you could ask a community manager here. They will introduce you to a fellow coworker. And it seems that this is a way a lot of Koreans and Korean startups prefer to get connected.

Benefits:

  • Accessibility: The best part about PeachTree is how flexible are the conditions for the price you pay monthly. They have membership plans to feat your wallet and recognize a nocturnal nature of developers with 24/7 access.

Downsides:

  • Bathroom: Clean and comfortable bathroom is a basic need for any working space. There is only one shared bathroom here that doesn’t match the overall comfort of this place.

Final Note:

PeachTree at Yeoksam station would be a practical solution for a lot of developers in the area. Yet it has a peaceful and productive atmosphere with stuff that is ready to solve your problems.

Coworking Space in Seoul:  Naver D2 Startup Factory

Best for: Tech startups who share Naver’s vision for innovation

Cost: Free

Amenities: Meeting rooms, Printing facility, Phonebooth.

Review:

Located in the center of the Gangnam district, Naver D2 Startup Factory is a dreamland for tech startups in Seoul. This place is not just another coworking space. It is an accelerator that provides both a free workplace and a seed money to startups that work with technologies of the future.

Naver D2 Startup Factory can house teams of 2 to 6 people. Depending on startup’s size and needs there are areas with fixed desks and private offices. There are meeting rooms and huge lounge that often host events for members. Naver also offers its cloud service to all the members. The place also has Arcade Games and Ramen Making so the members could unwind after stressful hours of work.

Benefits:

  • Free space at Gangnam: Startups can understand the value of free co-working space. Naver D2 Startup Factory tops that with the location since it’s easy to commute both for you and for your potential clients.
  • Developer 2 Developer: Networking at Naver D2 Startup Factory contrasts from other coworking spaces. When startup enters D2 Startup it introduces itself. There are demo days when startups present themselves to the community. And finally, each startup is required to teach one lecture in the field of their expertise. In such a way, Naver D2 Startup Factory promotes the role of learning from talented people that work alongside you.

Downsides:

  • Limited access:  Unfortunately, if you are a tech startup it does not guarantee that you will get a place here. Naver D2 Startup Factory chooses those startups that complement their existing community the most. That’s why you definitely have to consider how to pitch yourself to them.

Final note:

Naver D2 Startup Factory stands out as a coworking space that understands and supports startup in action. It might be tough to get in here, but it’s a challenge that will make your startup stronger.

Private Office(2-6 people): ₩540,000-1,390,000/mo

Conference room: ₩25,000/hour

Amenities: Meeting rooms, Printing Facility, Kitchen, Lockers, Mailbox

Review:

MyWorkspace is a shared office space, a popular variation of coworking space here in Seoul. It doesn’t have hot desks but offers flexible plans for lone entrepreneurs or small teams.

There is no flashy name behind this place, but MyWorkspace is proud of their customer service and the fact that they keep growing in the saturated market of a business estate in Gangnam.

The place has a spacious and cozy design you have basic amenities as a printing facility, meeting rooms and a kitchen with coffee and tea. There is also an option to rent a conference room for up to 24 people.

Benefits:

  • Location: You can find MyWorkspace located right around the corner from Gangnam Station exit 1, which is a great advantage for commuting and being easy to find by your visitors.
  • Price: For a small startup that has a long way to prove itself renting in Gangnam can be tough due to the high cost of rent. MyWorkspace offers their services at a very moderate price compared to other coworking spaces in the area.
  • Virtual Office: For those who are looking to register their business in the Gangnam district, there is an option to register your enterprise here. Using this option you still can take advantage of getting mail locally and using meeting rooms.

Downsides:

  • Lack of community: One think MyWorkspace is lacking is a sense of community that coworking spaces are famous for. There are no real events to meet people next door in an informal and relaxed situation.

Final Note:

MyWorkspace delivers a nice and fair package of coworking functions. The place is humble in size to fit team with more than 6 members. It will suit the best for those who are focused on a project and has no time to join events since there is simply none to join.

Coworking Space in Seoul:  Hyundai Card Studio Black

Best for: Startups, creators, and experts who share Hyundai’s business acumen.

Cost:

Lounge Membership: from ₩100,000/mo

Studio Membership: from ₩400,00/mo

Amenities: Meeting rooms, Make&Print facility, Kitchen&Pub, Phonebooths, Nap room, Shower rooms, Device testing room, 3D printers, Photostudio, Wellness rooms, Event hall

Review

Hyundai Card Studio Black is located right at the eye of Bussines Hurricane of Gangnam district. Yet, it’s amazing interior design and variety of amenities creates a safe harbor for its members to design, innovate and grow.

It has two memberships: Lounge and Studio. The lounge membership lets you casually work in an open space during specific service hours for the 5-day/10-day/1-month period. You also get to use Make&Printing or Mailbox and a Locker for an extra price. Studio membership gives you access to modular offices that can be optimized to fit teams of 1-10 or special rooms for bigger teams.  It also unlocks all the astounding amenities at the Hyundai Card Studio Black.

Benefits:

  • Supreme amenities: Hyundai Card Studio Black definitely gives you a full package of tools to flesh out your ideas. Moreover, this is among the only few 24-hour coworking spaces in Seoul.  There are even shower rooms. Some have resting areas, but this place recognizes that working overnight should not affect how fresh and presentable its members should look.
  • Conect&Learn: Hyundai Card encourages networking and synergy among members through knowledge-sharing and coaching programs like Hyundai Card Class, Happy Hour, Job Fair, I’m Chef and Invitation Lunch.

Downsides:

  • Exclusivity: Hyundai Card Studio Black may seem alluring and you might be thinking of joining this place. However, they don’t accept anyone from the street. According to Studio Black, one of their goals is to create synergy between startups within the facility, so there is no guaranty you will get a membership 100%.

Final Note:

Hyundai Card Studio Black is stylish, top-notch, inspiring coworking space any startup would dream to join. The price of this place bites, but among the competitor, it offers the most.

Coworking Space in Seoul:  Google Campus Seoul

Best for:  Pre-founders and early startups who share Google’s vision for innovations.

Cost: Free (online registration required for an access)

Amenities: High-speed WiFi, Cafe, Soundproof call rooms

Review

For those who consider visiting Google Campus Seoul, the first step would be registering on the Campus’ webpage. After that, you can pick up your key at the reception desk during their working hours. Furthermore, this will make you a member of the Google’s Campuses around the world.

Campus Seoul has three zones: Garden Zone, Event area Zone, and Cafe Zone. Unfortunately, the Garden was closed when we visited the Campus.  This was due to the freezing weather. Therefore, it is likely that any drop in temperature will cut off the access to this pretty area which has a fountain and futuristic furniture.

The event area has a stage, plus some tables and couches near the walls that can be used as a hotspot to work on your laptop.

The cafe area strikes your attention with a variety of fancy light sources, interesting design elements, plants, and a great playlist. Drinks and snacks are affordable, especially for the Gangnam area.

Deep into the coworking rooms, you will find call rooms, that you can sign up. Also, there is one extra seminar room that is usually opened for coworking. Overall there are around 100 seats, but when there are events, up to 300 people could be in attendance, so that time would not be the best for coworking.

Google Campus runs an incubator for a selected number of startups, who are called residents. They have their own area here and supported by a great package of Google’s services. Google holds a competition for the residency every six months and it is a good opportunity to bring a startup to the next level of recognition.

Benefits:

  • Google affiliation: The company remains a dream job for millions in the world. And this is probably the best place to experience their corporate philosophy as well as get fueled by other gifted and determined people for no extra cost.
  • Events: This place is worthy of your attention at least for their events. Campus presents venture capitalists, artists, entrepreneurs, industry leaders, and visionaries as well as organizes a mentoring with successful Googlers. And don’t forget to get to know future Elon Musk, who might have worked at the table to your left, during monthly networking events at Campus Seoul.

Downsides:

  • Passable interior design: The chance of finding a good spot to work varies a lot depending on the weather and if there is an event taking place. There are about 10-15 seats at the event area, and if the garden is closed you can only look for a seat at the cafe. And it’s a fancy looking cafe with good coffee, but let’s be honest, there are many coffee shops around Seoul that will provide you the same experience.
  • Lack of a native app: One thing you don’t expect in Google’s facility is to book call rooms on a piece of paper stuck to a wall next to it. They should make it easier to know about the upcoming events without the need to visit Campus’ website.

Final note:

Google’s Campus is definitely one of the most notable coworking spaces in Seoul. Google’s brand name makes the place a tourist destination for digital nomads across the world. Free membership and location at Gangnam district make it a great options for digital nomads or freelancers. But it is worth to know the schedule of events here to make sure you can get the desired coworking experience.

Coworking Space in Seoul:  FastFive Gangnam

Best for: starting and established entrepreneurs who look for presentable office for a reasonable price.

Cost:

Focused Desk: from  ₩500,000/mo

Private Suite:  ₩650,000/mo

Amenities: Meeting rooms, Printing Facility,  Kitchen with beer, refreshments, coffee, and cereal.

Review

FastFive is one of the largest players among coworking space providers in Korea. Their native understanding of Korean customers’ needs has earned the trust of a lot of startups. We have visited their coworking space near Gangnam station right across the street from their main competitors to see what makes them special.

It is clear that FastFive is very responsive to the needs of their customers. Hot desks are not the most popular option here in Gangnam, so FastFive has decided at this particular branch to give more space to those who prefer stationary desks or a private atmosphere of a small office.

Modern industrial designs and stunning views make you feel like you are working in Manhattan, but for a far more fair price. FastFive recognizes the desire for professionalism in its members and has no limitations to use their meeting rooms, that can be conveniently booked through an app.

FastFive GangnamBenefits:

  • Neighborhood: In Gangnam, your office speaks for you. The size, the style, the view from your window, and, specifically, your location all count to make an impression. Getting an office at Gangnamdae-ro is like getting a top-shelf placement, but for offices.

Downsides:

  • Strictly professional: FastFive doesn’t put events high on the list of priorities. There are occasional networking parties going on at one of the branches. But considering how big FastFive’s network is, it is unlikely you will get to know your neighboring startup community that easily.

Final note

FastFive is a coworking space that doesn’t sell you gimmicky things. It is very straightforward with a simple, yet with the essential number of amenities, that are presented on a top-notch level. However, the fact that they shy away from doing more event seems like a waste of potential to create a community among the members.

Review

Fab Lab Seoul is not your typical coworking space. Established with the support of NGO called TIDE University, it is part of a world initiative to create an easily accessible space with design equipment that was previously used only by large enterprises.  FabLabs exists all around the world and has gained a lot of recognition over the last year due to their empowering mission.

This space has a distinct feel of the lab. In addition, it has an atmosphere of an artistic mess.  It is familiar to many artists yet it is organized by zones and has a very strict self-cleaning policy. However, the main reason people come here is to rent equipment to create their prototype or a milestone project at school.

Since FabLab embraces the idea that everyone should have the right to learn and create, they don’t require you to be professionally educated. However, due to safety reasons, you are required to attend a 3-hour workshop before you can rent the equipment.

Benefits:

  • Cheap access to professional tools: This place is a great solution for those who want to flash out a project, but are not ready to make a costly purchase.
  • Educational programs: Employees here have big experience with the equipment and you won’t be left on your own

Downsides:

  • Workshop queue: Workshops for 3D printing and Laser cutting happen only once a month and have ~20 slots. The registration for it fills up fast and there are people on a waiting list in case someone suddenly backs out. So it is not that easy to get straight to work.

Final note

There is no denial that 3D printing will become part of our professional routine the same way regular printing did in the past. FabLab helps young adults learn and create with it. Surely it could use some more space renovation to fit their futuristic mission, but real things are getting done here and it is a great community to get to know.

REVIEW

Seoul coworking space Dreamplus is a brainchild of one of the biggest business players in South Korea Hanhwa group. Here, in few blocks from Gangnam Station, they occupy a large and classy skyscraper. Dreamplus is designed to bridge a gap between startup boom that is happening in Korea right now and large enterprises. Therefore, this approach has some promise since most of the young Koreans take a look at startups to escape the outdated business culture. Meanwhile established businesses are looking for a “blue ocean” that might be harder to spot from the top.

Dreamplus’ atmosphere blends the feeling of a luxurious office environment and a dynamic open space with lots of glass and bright light.  In addition, the second floor is made for all kind of meetings spaces and cozy hot desks to occupy.

The third floor has a dark wood design and soft lighting that gives off the feeling of a library. Indeed, there are lots of fresh magazines and business books to pick up and consider a new perspective on the project you are working on. Furthermore, this is also a primary place for those who chose hot desks in coworking spaces.

Up from there, every floor has a number of rooms for teams of 2 people and above. Dreamplus takes pride in the 1,400mm individual desks they provide.  Furthermore, each story also has a kitchen, two extra meeting rooms, and a printing facility.

Benefits:

  • Luxurious feel: It is no secrets that people don’t value cheap things. Your team will be proud to work here. In addition, the place is still affordable considering the location.
  • Incubating: Being noticed in the over-saturated Korean market might be the hardest challenge for any startup right now. Therefore, this place offers its members networking opportunities with not just startups and businesses inside Dreamplus, but also a potential way into Hanhwa’s presence in all of Asia.

Downsides:

  • Foreigner unfriendly: We could not miss that place is not easy to access for a foreign person. Their webpage is all in Korean. Then after your event book a tour, you receive an automated phone call in Korean that is hard to differentiate from phone spam common in Korea.

Final Note:

If you are an established, middle-sized startup looking for a nurturing soil to grow, Dreamplus may be your choice. It is a gorgeous space that makes a coworking not a shady thing to do anymore. Just make sure you are Korean, to use this place to its fullest.
