Samsung SDS, a subsidiary of the Samsung Group, recently revealed their new blockchain-based finance platform, Nexfinance. This innovative new platform will use blockchain together with Artificial Intelligence.  It will offer technological solutions for the digital finance sphere.

About Nexfinance

Nexfinance will offer services such as digital identity management, an AI virtual assistant, a finance concierge and automatic insurance payment.  As well as assisting financial companies to drive digital transformations more securely.

At a recent press event in Seoul, a Samsung SDS official described the new technology as:

“… a platform that allows the easy application of new IT technologies and various external solutions, allowing financial institutions to actively and flexibly respond to a rapidly changing financial IT environment. We provide the highest level of security by applying technology for forgery and falsification prevention and joint authentication based on blockchain technology.”

The platform is primarily aimed towards the insurance industry as well as the digital finance industry.

Samsung and Blockchain

It’s worth noting that this isn’t the first venture that the Samsung Group has taken into blockchain technology. Just last year, they unveiled Nexledger: a blockchain based platform designed to assist with digital transactions by offering digital payments, identity, and authentication solutions. As well as this, they also won an order from Seoul City Government to draw up a roadmap for implementing blockchain into the city’s administrative efforts by 2020.

So, what does this say about the future of blockchain technology in Korea? It’s clear that Samsung chairman Hong Won Pyo is ready to embrace the blockchain revolution and age of cryptocurrency. Now, we’re just left to speculate who’ll be next to follow suit.

Dear Young Korean Entrepreneurs,

There is a moment in time for all of us between the ages of 17-27 where the world starts to open up.  For me, for example, was 18 when I went off to college in California.  Some Koreans living in Korea will do the same but others won’t leave their home until well after college.  With this new found freedom will also come a lot of expectations to succeed.  There will be a lot of demand that your family, friends, and even your culture will have on you.  Korean entrepreneurs all faced the same issue.

A decade ago those expectations for most Koreans was to become a doctor, lawyer, or join a big company like Samsung or Hyundai.  However, there is a great opportunity for many young people as their minds and freedom start to open up.  That opportunity is the opportunity to shape our own lives through our own decisions.  It is to truly become independent.  I am not talking about taking care of yourself financially.  I am talking about having an independent mind to truly discover who we really are.

Free your Minds

For years Koreans have been taught in schools what to think and even how to feel.  Now with this independence young Koreans have the freedom to discover the truth on their own whatever that may be.  These 10 or so years are crucial in the development of young minds.  Whatever they decide during this time is the path they will go on for the rest of their lives (mostly).  If they set their path to work for Samsung during this time, they will most likely end up being a company man for Samsung or another big corporation for the rest of their lives.  I bring up Samsung because for most Koreans back in the day the greatest achievement was to work for Samsung, it was looked upon as success and stability.  So many Koreans followed what “society” expected of them, in essence giving up their independence.

Use Your Minds

The ability to have the freedom and the independence to use your mind is one of the most precious things you will ever have.  Humans are built to use their minds, that is the greatest asset humans have over any other species.   Humans were able to use their minds and innovative.  Through innovation came revolutions.  Humans need to continue to innovate and that is not easy to do if your mind is not free.  Many Koreans study hours and hours on tests to get into schools or prepare for corporate jobs during these crucial years.  Sure you will get into a great school and find a nice job, but where is the chance for innovation?  That job at a corporate office will always be there.  Rather than focusing on a corporate job use these precious years to challenge yourself.  Go out and figure out what you LOVE to do and what you are passionate about.  Depart from what is considered “normal”, be an innovator, be a true entrepreneur.  This, in the end, will lead you to live the best life you can live for yourself.

Samsung Debuts

Startup Radar will be going to CES 2018 in Las Vegas!  We are very excited to see what Samsung will be debuting at the conference.

The Samsung Galaxy A8 and Galaxy A8+

This will most likely have the same design and user experience as Samsung Galaxy S8.  They should have the same Infinity Display and should be waterproof.  However, will they still have the popular dual selfie camera setup?  Most likely yes.  Rumor is that the dual camera sensor will allow users the option to have their background blurred.  The smartphone will come with Samsung Pay and be able to support the Samsung Gear VR headset.  You can get the Samsung Galaxy A8 and A8+ in Blue, Black, Gold, and Silver.

“With the release of the Galaxy A8(2018) and A8+(2018), we’re bringing our customers’ favorite features from our flagship smartphones, such as the Infinity Display and our first Dual Front Camera with Live Focus, to our Galaxy A series, which is already known for its premium design,” said Junho Park, Vice President of Global Product Planning – Mobile Communications Business, Samsung Electronics

The Galaxy S9 and the Galaxy S9+

This will be Samsung’s most powerful smartphone of all time.  However, the design of the phone will much much like the Galaxy S8.  What will be different will be the fingerprint sensor that will be under the camera on the rear side.  Since the Galaxy S8 had some of the best screens in the mobile industry it seems Samsung didn’t want to fix something that wasn’t broken.  We are guessing they are waiting for screen upgrades for the Galaxy S10 and for the Galaxy S9 they solely seemed to have focused on the smartphone’s performance which could be a good thing.

The Notebook 9 Pen

The Pen will be 13.3 inches and can be used on laptops as well as tablets.  The Pen will have a durable lightweight shell (light silver or white) and weighs slightly over 2 pounds.  It will use a quad-core 8th generation Intel Core i7 Processor with up to 16GB of DDR4 RAM.
